Moored up in Milford

Posted by

All the old mooring rings from the days before the Marina was built can still be seen and are still used further down the quay..

A few shots this week that are a bit abstract or different.

The bow of that racing machine points directly at the old mooring ring on a great diagonal ... and what a wonderful mix of boats you have there. The fifth one on in that first row looks like an 'oldie'. I could spend hours in a place like this, especially since Milford, CT was my hometown! ;D

@Judy aka L@dybug: I wonder if some of your forefathers came from the original Milford Haven !!?? The marina is a great place to walk around either taking photos, browing in the shops on the promanade or having a bite to eat in one of the small cafes on the quayside.

Super composition with the old rusty mooring circle

excellent use of depth of field

@grouser: And a lot of use of the flip up screen on my camera to get a low angle where the old knees wont go anymore :-)

Jules from Drayton, United Kingdom

good perspective and interest at each level Ant. (I've found you a non-standard boat - no blue! stay tuned...)

@Ted: Yahoo !!! Bring it on my man !!

Jeff from Pembroke Dock, United Kingdom

Nice one Ant, well captured ! but I can't help thinking back to when Milford was a thriving fishing port, and those quays were lined with trawlers, not pleasure boats.

@Jeff: I bet there were loads of good photos to be had back then as well (and not so many blue boats and tarpaulins !!)

franz from Baden, Austria

I like how you composed this image - with the ring in the front, the line of boats to the side and the buildings in the back.

I like that framing with this corroded ring playing a nice role in the view.

Thanks so much for the link, Ant ... I spent some time looking around. We had to deal with tides in Milford, CT, but no lock times to contend with. Today I see this warning: Gale warnings - Issued: 1533 UTC Mon 19 Nov - Southerly gale force 8 expected soon. I guess there's no sailing today. ;D
PS: My Hayter ancestors came from the Shaftesbury/Gillingham area in Dorset County.

@Judy aka L@dybug: Dorset is a wonderful county full of wonderful scenery and stunning coastline !!
