Stonehenge

@Linerberry: This year is also the first time I´ve stopped and actualy gone up to the stones.I have driven past them on past visits to Salisbury on exersise with the Army !!

@grouser: No,but I´d love to.It´s also an amazing place I´ve read.A large henge with 2 stone circles I believe.

@danthro: The stones are roped off preventing visitors actualy getting close enough to touch the stones(which I can understand,think of the millions that visit Stonehenge every year) but at the closet your no more than maybe 30 Ft. away from the stones and with a good lens you can take great shots.

@Marion: Experts are still discussing many theories Marion.The most popular is that timber A-frames were erected to raise the stones, and that teams of people then hauled them upright using ropes. The topmost stones may have been raised up incrementally on timber platforms and slid into place or pushed up ramps.Nobody realy knows !! I think that it should stay that way,we´re not so clever as we like to think these days...
